Steam Restaurant

As a local and a regular patron of Steam for over a decade, I've witnessed its evolution, particularly with the recent change of ownership. It's disheartening to read some of the less favorable reviews, given the evident dedication of the new owners to culinary excellence and customer satisfaction. The restaurant, a jewel on the peninsula, now boasts a skilled male and female chef duo, overcoming the regional challenges in staffing. My recent visit was marked by the 'Banquet for Two.' Each dish that arrived was a testament to the chefs' expertise. A highlight was the beef jerky, a unique delicacy, I sampled from my partner's plate. Its exceptional taste is a nod to the owner's heritage, where jerky is a specialty. The personalised approach extended to my espresso martini, prepared just as I prefer. While my photos may not do justice to the culinary art due to the lighting, the buzzing atmosphere of locals savoring their meals spoke volumes. Our heartfelt thanks to the chefs and owners for rekindling our love for Steam with such a remarkable dining experience.

I can honestly say that this is the WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD! I cannot believe how much is charged for pitiful servings of mediocre to gross food. The kitchen was severely disorganised, evident by the mains taking wayyy too long to get out and service was subpar to okay at best (can’t blame the waitstaff honestly). The food itself was poorly balanced (too sour, too sweet or bland) with a scarce yet extremely confusing assortment of ingredients. I could go on but I think my attached pictures are self explanatory. Everyone who was dining appeared to be experiencing the same comedy of errors - I witnessed a lady showing her partner a google image of green chicken curry, exclaiming that their meal was “bizarre.” I can attest to this, it was a sour, foul, rancid, BROWN, gruel! Completely inedible. Apparently the restaurant has recently changed management, a clear shame given the shift in reviews overtime. I’m very disappointed as this was my mums birthday dinner… at least it was a trauma-bonding experience :/

We visited Steam on a Saturday night, with 5 girls. 2 of the waitresses that served us was (the 2 sisters) ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! However, we waited 2 hrs for all our food. They came 1 by 1 and it honestly was not worth the wait. The portion of the meals was VERY TINY for 5 girls. Our 2 last meals was the nasi goreng and the pad Thai was SO SALTY and SOUR! The price for the food was not worth the quality of it. We were very disappointed and asked what can be done. One of the sister was VERY nice and offered us another meal, however the owner was very careless. Overall, I would not recommend at all.

My friends and I ordered the Nasi Goreng and Beef Noodles and it was EXTREMELY OILY. The waiter was really sweet and service was great. The food was just too average. Everyone ended up just wasting their food. Inedible. I can see the owner likes to retort back rude responses, but this is the honest truth. Great service, but unappetising and unhealthy food.

The service was terrible the day we came, supposedly we came through the wrong entrance and we were reprimanded by the wait staff! There was no ambience at all, I think all the staff may have been preparing for their dinner service. The decor did not match their website description it was dark, dated and a little grotty. The food was good and came out quiet quickly, however there were only 3 tables of customers in the restaurant.
